When Should I Replace My Backup?

If you have a newer computer, you should backup to a "USB" device ("flash drive", "memory stick", etc.). If you follow the manufacturers instructions, the "USB" device will last for a long time.

  • You should look at purchasing a new one each year.

Many Jewelers with older computers are using "floppy" diskettes to backup their data. The "floppy" diskettes can become damaged. You may not know it until you need to restore your data.

  • You SHOULD replace "floppy" diskettes every 3 - 6 months.
If you have a large amount of data, it may require 2 or more diskettes per backup. If you are asked to insert a second diskette, you must do so. If you cancel this process or try to use only one disk, you will NOT have a complete backup of your data.
